With the start of school right around the corner, it is the perfect time to start fresh – spiritually, mentally and physically. If you are like me and struggle with being healthy in any of those areas, then Katie Farrell’s book, Devotions for a Healthier You, is just what the doctor ordered.

It contains 71 days of devotions. Each day there is a key verse, short devotional and prayer. These are great for anyone whose schedule is maxed out. It doesn’t take any time at all, but you enter you day filled with scripture and inspiration. Peppered throughout the 71 days, there are also dashes of inspiration and some yummy recipes, complete with mouth-watering pictures.

Katie also includes four additional things to get you off on the right foot.

  • 10 Steps to a Healthier You: concise and practical
  • Prayers for Health: short prayers focused around a particular scripture
  • Identity Scriptures: directed at our true identity in Christ, these are essential for changing from the inside out
  • One Week Meal Plan: complete with grocery list and recipes

Healthier You is filled with wonderful tips and suggestions without being overwhelming. Beautiful photographs round out this book, which is certain to be a reference on my bookshelf. I encourage you to pick a copy for yourself or a friend.

Movin’ Mondays – Week 1 Report

Well, it is hard to believe that week 1 of Movin’ Mondays is already over. I am going to share my journey with you. Last Monday, I was so excited to get started with the Shapely Girl Fitness DVD review. I chose to use the “Let’s Get Stepping” DVD. Since, I had done some step aerobics in the past, I opted not to do the tutorial. In hindsight, I would highly recommend going through the tutorial. Anyhow, I started right in with the workout. Since, I haven’t been very active the workout certainly took it out of me. However, I felt so good after I completed it – a real sense of accomplishment. I will tell you that I was a little sore the next day, but not too bad. I worked out with the DVD on Wednesday and then Saturday. I chose not to do the full workout those two days. The wonderful thing about the Shapely Girl Fitness DVDs is that there is a premix section on the DVD. This offers some shorter workouts to choose from. I love the idea that you get to pick and choose what will work for your time and energy level for that particular day. I also really love the encouragement that Debra gives throughout the workout.

Now, for what you really want to know – the results. Before I give you the numbers, I do want to emphasize that I did not change any of my eating habits and as noted I did opt for the shorter workouts on two of the days. However, I was so surprised yesterday when I did my measurements. I had lost 3 pounds and 1 to 2 inches on my bust, hips and waist. More than these results, I felt like I had more energy. I can’t wait to see what this week holds.

I encourage you to join me on this journey. If you are, please let me know and I will gladly pray for you.

Not defined by the numbers

Numbers are all around us and effect us everyday – both positively and negatively. For those with facebook, twitter and/or a blog, you can easily be consumed with your numbers – followers, likes, tweets, the list could go on. However, the effect of numbers is not limited to the “online world”. People, women especially, can become consumed with their jean size or their weight. It in fact can get to be where this number has so much power that it dictates the rest of the day. If the number goes down, everything is wonderful; your entire outlook on life is brighter. On the other hand, if the number goes up, then the day is ruined before it even begins.

Let me tell you a secret – a number does not define you. No, dear friend, your identity comes from God alone. He loves and treasures you. This is not to say we are not supposed to take care of the body God has given us. In fact, I mean just the opposite; we need to take care of ourselves. We just have to make certain that your goals are realistic. Keep in mind that not everyone is supposed to be a size 2.

With all that said, I knew that I needed to make some changes in my life to take care of my body. So when the opportunity to be a part of a select group of women to commit to working out with a Shapely Girl Fitness DVD three times a week for the month of October, I jumped at the chance. Okay, let’s be honest, jumping is a little of an overstatement, but you get the idea. This was the nudge and accountability that I needed to get moving.

Therefore, for the next month, I am going to have Movin’ Mondays on my blog, where I will report my progress (inches/pounds lost, energy level, etc) and tell you about this wonderful program started by Debra Mazda for real women, not just those who are already in shape and tone. I wanted to share my goals with you as well. My goals for this month is to stick with the commitment to do the “Let’s Get Stepping” DVD at least three times a week, lose 10 pounds, and have more energy to do things with my family. I hope my posts will inspire you to
