Knowing God by Name – Book Review

cover knowing God

One of my favorite things to study are the names of God. Therefore, when the opportunity presented itself for me to review, Knowing God by Name, I didn’t even hesitate.

You and I go throughout our lives with different names, but are still the same person. These names are simply highlighting various characteristics. For example, I go by Jamy, Mrs. Whitaker, sweetheart, and momma – they all refer to me, but are emphasizing different aspects of my life. God is the same way. There are so many different names given throughout the Bible to highlight God’s attributes. Knowing God by Name looks at 40 different names, broken down into an eight-week study.

I love that each week of the study has a different name or attribute of God emphasized for five days. Each of those days includes a scripture, devotion and closing prayer. The week is wrapped up with Day 6, which includes questions to give you the opportunity to dig a little deeper into the names for that particular week. I love how it is not just a study of the names of God, but also shows how to applies to our lives.

Besides having this fabulous book as a resource, there is also a website with great videos to go along with each week of the study. Therefore, you could work through this study on your own or with a group.

I would highly recommend this book for your next personal or women’s Bible study, but don’t just take my word for it, read the first chapter. It gives such great insight into the attributes and characteristics into the God we serve. In order to have a relationship with someone you need to get to know him or her better and Knowing God by Name is a great place to start.
