Weighted Down

Most of the time when I come home with groceries my loving family is there is assist in getting everything in the house. However, there are times when I have to get is done on my own. I don’t know about you, but if there are 3 “easy” loads, I will weigh myself down to try to get it all in fewer loads. The stress of the bags on my hands and the weight on my back is evident when I overextend what my body is physically able to carry. This idea is not limited to just the physical.

Before the Stressed-Less Living study, I had simply thought that stress was just something everyone lived with. The successful people just knew how to manage it better.

Try as I might, I couldn’t seem to figure out how I was going to make it better. In other words, ease the stress that seemed to have a choke hold on me. However, the harder I tried the deeper I seemed to be drowning.

I discovered quickly in the Stressed-Less Living study that I was the problem; or rather me trying to fix things was the problem. You and I must realize that we have access to the ultimate problem solver – God.

The greatest lesson I learned in this study is to stop dealing with or fixing things on my own and to lay it all at God’s feet – my problems, doubts, fears, insecurities, everything – and trust Him to take care of it all.

This lesson alone takes the responsibility out of our hands once we turn it over to God. Just like with me and the grocery bags, we were not created to carry such a weight or burden. This causes a manifestation of health issues if left unchecked.

God wants us to run into His arms and allow Him to take our burdens and stress away. Just like with my own children, on a much smaller scale, I want them to come to me with their problems and pain to make it better. God, our Heavenly father, will take our stress and replace it with joy and peace that only He can provide.

Do not miss the opportunity to experience this peace, simply let go of the stress that is trying to drag you down.

I would definitely recommend this book. Like so many of the Online Bible Studies through Proverbs 31 Ministries, this has changed my life.

If you would like to replace your load of stress for peace, I would suggest you pick up this book and start digging into the Word to draw closer to the problem-solver, stress releaser and peace-maker – GOD.

*I would love to hear from you. What load are you carrying today? What is keeping you from laying it all at His feet and receiving the peace that only God can give?

  1. Jamy that picture glued me immediately. Love it and don’t we all load up those groceries trying to get them all in the house? This book too for me has been life changing and come at God’s perfect timing right after Mom’s death and now this week how did He know I needed Mary and Martha to bless me like they have never before with the busyness of working through Mom’s estate and cleaning out Dad’s shed and I am able to do what is important and forget this house. My whole family is coming on Sunday like at Christmas and my house is not clean – but I don’t care – family is coming and that’s what is important…….Loved this blog! Hugs – Debbie W. 2. Jamy, a picture is truly worth a thousand words! That is so me figuratively and literally. We live on the third floor of our apartment complex, so I will drag every bag up 76 stairs at one time! I’ll have rings around my wrist and an aching back! It’s the same feeling I have when I drag around the bags of life, guilt, shame, anger, brokenheartedness, and every other negative emotion. This book and the OBS has been an eye opener and a blessing to my life. I finally feel I can exhale and totally trust God. I can not do anything without Him. He created me and knows me better than I know myself; and he knows what I need before I need it. It’s time I drop some of the load that I’ve been carrying. 🙂

  3. I love the picture it is so me. I like the analogy of the weight of the bags holing us back. The weight of this world and its troubles can be overwhelming sometimes. This study has been life changing for me and I have really gotten rid of a lot of my extra stress.

  4. Jamy- your picture and blog post title immediately made me think of these verses:

    Hebrews 12:1-2

    New International Version (NIV)
12 Therefore, since we are surrounded by such a great cloud of witnesses, let us throw off everything that hinders and the sin that so easily entangles. And let us run with perseverance the race marked out for us, 2 fixing our eyes on Jesus, the pioneer and perfecter of faith. For the joy set before him he endured the cross, scorning its shame, and sat down at the right hand of the throne of God.

It is so easy to carry all of that stress with us and let it keep us weighed down so we aren’t running toward God our Father with everything we have! I’m willing to bet Jesus was STRESSED but it’s how he dealt with that stress- keeping His eyes on THE FATHER instead of on His circumstances that carried him through! Praise God He did!!!
