Chaos to Calm: Where are you on the Spectrum?

March2012 055

I absolutely love spring – the warmer weather, birds singing and flowers beginning to bloom. However, with the start of spring several other things come into play; like track practice, awards banquets, school programs, graduation, gardening, just to name a few. Besides the everyday pressures that come, the chaos that ensues from a crazy schedule leads to heightened amounts of stress.

When life gets hectic and crazy where do you retreat? What is your calming place? For me it would have to be the beach. I adore the warmth of the sand between my toes, the lull of the ocean waves and the crispness of the air. The atmosphere at the beach transports me to a place of tranquility.

What could be more relaxing? Even better than a vacation on the beach for stress relief is time spent with God. He never has an “off season” or closed due to storms. You do not have to be concerned about the distance or the cost because God is always with us and Christ paid our debt on the cross.

I invite you to join the Proverbs 31 Online Bible Study, Stressed-Less Living. If you would like more information about this study, check out Melissa Taylor’s blog or feel free to post your questions here in the comment section.

As an incentive, for everyone who comments on my blog now through Friday night, you will be entered to win the Stressed-Less Living Conference Call Series to go along with the study. There is a wonderful line-up of guests for these calls.

Between God’s Word, the study and the conference calls, you will be equipped to handle the stress that comes your way and begin to taste the freedom of stressed less living. What are you waiting for?

  1. I retreat to my rocking chair with a good book when I need to calm down. I also enjoy baking cookies to relieve stress, but that backfires sometimes because I sample too many cookies and get stressed about my lack of self-control. I am looking forward to this online line study, it will be the first one that I’ve joined.

  2. I am looking forward to the study. For me, just a day at home without having to run kids or go to work (I only work part time, so don’t work every day.) can be calming. Looking forward to starting the garden work – very calming for me.

  3. I’m really looking forward to this study! I’ve never done the conference calls before. But looking forward to getting rid of some stress!

  4. I would have to say that the beach is my calming place, too. Not that I get there that often, but I was just there in February. So relaxing….:-)

  5. Hello. I am Tristine and I am thrilled to be back with the Proverbs 31 OBS! This is my second one, the first being the recent one, Let.It.Go. all I can say is WOW. The Lord worked in a sweet and mighty way as I did the best I could to do as much as they asked. Now I totally run to God, no matter where I am. Yes, I do love the beach, or anywhere like a park, somewhere that feels like God’s Country. I fell in love as He opened my eyes to Creation, truly, 3 years ago when I was saved. My gorgeous backyard is my “special place” with God.

On the stress spectrum, just over three years ago, I was OVER the top! The effects of the chronic and high stress in my life snowballed into a huge, quite ugly time in my life. I was heading for an implosion. As a very sensitive soul, the side affects of insomnia, no appetite, depression, panic, high anxiety, were rampant and I ended up going days without sleep and eating. This brought me closer to God, but I didn’t really know it.

I did have to be hospitalized for sleep. Long story short. My stress level was off the charts just under three years ago. Hopeless, helpless, terrified, and scared, and without a relationship with Jesus. I was calling Him to come, going on faith. God came and saved me (gave me my salvation-we made the connection) and my world changed 180. I dove in to the Word, church, service, small groups, etc and I can give God ALL the glory for my state of PEACE today, most of the time. On the spectrum, I feel I have a couple few weeds for The Lord to yank from me, that cause me to turn other places in addition to Him that are harmful. I pray that we all, including myself, experience the mind renewal that takes place when we give it all to God. He deserves our time, since He is our Great Physician, and He is the only one that can heal this. I look forward to week 9 or so to see how we have grown. Thanks for letting me share. The glory, mercy, love, and power of God have lifted me higher and gives me peace and joy daily.

  6. I am very excited to be here. My calm is Jesus. I love the beach but it is a bit of a drive. We have a great backyard that has lots of room for our dogs to run and play. I come back to the yard daily for special time with God. I am learning to run to Him all the time for everything. I believe He is blessing me. Thanks for all you guys do.

  8. Unfortunately, I don’t have a retreat! This is why I’m looking forward to this OBS! I’m looking forward to learning about the best way to deal with stress, which is retreating into our relationship with God! Blessings to all who are joining in this journey together!

  9. This will be my 4th obs and I am so looking forward to this book. Our family’s life is very stressful right now and I feel that this study is landing me right where I need to be in order to lean on God’s Word and His love.

  10. I’m very excited to be doing this study…Between the stress of my illness (chronic Lyme disease relapse) and just the daily stresses we all seem to face nowadays I feel like this study will really be a blessing and help for all of us taking it… 🙂

  11. I’m excited about this latest book study. I’m a special ed teacher and this school year has been very stressful. Probably the most stressful year I’ve ever had. I feel as if I’m constantly anxious and worried.
