I’m certain that all of us would go out of our way to avoid a head-on collision. Then, why do we continue on our collision course with God? We choose to go our own way instead of His. If we do not make changes, then our will is going to collide with God’s will. In order to avoid this we need to identify the three principles for staying in God’s will.
They all come from the following passage of scripture, “Trust in the LORD and do good; dwell in the land and enjoy safe pasture. Delight yourself in the LORD and he will give you the desires of your heart. Commit your way to the LORD; trust in him and he will do this” (Psalm 37:3-5).
The first principle is trust. When your trust is in God, then you will want to obey Him instead of your own selfish desires. This is giving God complete control over your life and not trying to take control of the wheel from the passenger seat. God is going to direct your paths according to His purpose and plan for your life. We need to put our trust in Him and let Him lead.
The next principle is delight. The Hebrew word for delight means, “to enjoy”. To delight in the Lord means that we want to spend time with Him. In spending time with Him, our desires become for His will and not our own.
The final principle is to commit. We must commit to following God’s will for our lives. We have to take that first step and let God have control of our lives to direct us down the right path.
If we want to leave a legacy, then we need to put these principles into action in our lives. God is the only one who can take us off of our collision course with Him. We simply need to give Him control by trusting, delighting and committing to His will.
Questions to Consider:
1. What is keeping you from completely trusting God right now in your life? Now, take all those things to God today in prayer. It is difficult to build trust if there is not communication.
2. Make a list of the desires of your heart. Spend time with God asking for His perspective on each item on your list.
3. What action are you going to take this week to get in line with God’s will for your life?
