It is easy, in our fast-paced world, to go through life and simply take for granted the little things. A person who only has a month to live, however, looks at things differently. He or she greets each new day with a sense of gratitude. This is the way we should all live.
However, with society pressures and the human tendency to compare, we are left wanting more, instead of being grateful for the gifts God gives to us each and everyday. Having an attitude of gratitude will not only make us content, but also gives us a sense of peace that can only be found in being thankful to God.
Being thankful has the power to change us in so many ways. We have the ability to see things for what they truly are and thank God for every breath that we are given, enjoying life to the fullest. Having an attitude of gratitude will change you emotionally, spiritually, as well as, relationally. It will not take long for others to see a change in you. This brings to mind the Grinch in the Dr. Seuss story, How the Grinch Stole Christmas. His heart physically grew three sizes, when he discovered that it was not about getting, but giving and being thankful for what you have, not constantly wanting more.
I pray that you do not wait until the end to thank God for the gifts His pours out to you everyday. Take a moment right now, to thank Him for giving you another day.
Questions to Consider:
- Make a list of five or six things that you often take for granted. Then, thank God for those things today.
- Look over your list and select one that you will enjoy today.
- Make a list of the people in your life that you are most thankful for. In the next few days, make an effort to let these people know how much they mean to you.
