Boy, this chapter really hit home with me. As many of you know, I am in the process of going after a couple of dreams that God has placed on my heart – writing and speaking. For quite some time, it has been really easy to simply put this on the back burner and give excuses for not going after it. However, I know that God has put these dreams in my heart for a reason. Yes, these are far greater than I ever imagined, but I know it will be so sweet, with God’s help to see these dreams realized. The very same thing is true in your life as well. God has created each one of us with dreams and a purpose that only we can fulfill. Yes, we need His help, but He cannot help us if we keep our dreams on ice – frozen and locked away.
Okay, I know that some of you are thinking; yes, but how do I know if this is from God? Well, Paul gives us the secret in Ephesians, “God…is able to do far more than we would ever dare to ask or even dream of – infinitely beyond our highest prayers, desires, thoughts, or hopes” (Ephesians 3:20, TLB). When we examine the dreams that come to mind, ask yourself; is this something that is beyond me? If the answer is yes, then it is probably from God. The real test, does it go against God’s Word? If so, then this dream is not from God. His dreams will rise to the top as everything else falls away.
Dreams from God require that step of faith. They are not something that we can do on our own. These dreams will also make an impact in the lives of others. God will not give you selfish dreams. Ultimately, God has placed this in your heart. He does not want you to waste the gifts and talents that He has given to you. They were given to you for a specific purpose. God wants you to go for your dreams because it is directly linked to you. It is who you are.
Keep in mind, that this doesn’t mean that you will have smooth sailing. In fact, the enemy is going to work hard on you as soon as you take that first step. Satan does not want your dream to become a reality. Therefore, he will try and discourage you, so you will simply quit. He wants to take us out of the game, so we are no longer a threat. However, this is when we need to let go and plug into our power source. We need to trust God because He promises to be with us every step of the way. God wants to takes our trials and hurts and turn them into strengths that can ultimately be used to fulfill this dream.
With all that in mind, I challenge you to go after that dream that you have tucked away in the back of the freezer. God has big things in store for you. All you need to do is step out in faith, trust Him by following after His leading and then sit back and taste the sweetness of His goodness.
Questions to Consider:
1. What are those dreams that you have tucked away? What dream would you chase after today, if you knew you couldn’t fail?
2. Write out one dream you have. Is it from God? What steps of faith do you need to take? Does it help or serve others?
3. Spend time today asking God what one thing you need to do today to start pursuing this dream.
