Day 6 – Monkey Bars

I love this quote from William Shedd, “A ship is safe in harbor, but that’s not what ships are for.”  It is easy to play it safe and stay within our comfortable zone.  However, that is not what we were made for.  God created us for so much more and many times that means we have to take that first step out in faith, even if it is risky.  Like I mentioned earlier in the week, there are times that we think we have everything under control and we can handle it all in our own strength.  However, we get stuck, like a small child on the monkey bars.  God is right there saying, “Just let go, I will catch you.”  In order to truly feel peace in the middle of our circumstances, we have to let go.  He will always catch us, just like a loving parent with the child on the monkey bars.  What things in your life are you holding on so tight to that it is keeping you from moving forward?  What is keeping you from letting go and trusting God?

I don’t know if you have ever tried to hold on to something for a long time.  It doesn’t really matter what the object is the result is the same – it is tiring.  By holding on to things in our life, it is keeping us from reaching those dreams that God has for each of us.  In order to accomplish this, we must not only let go of our own plans, but also step out of that comfort zone.

Fear usually is the obstacle that stands in our way.  We are limited in our focus because we do not see the big picture.  We must remember, “perfect love casts out fear” (I John 4:18).  God love for us far outweighs our fear.  Do not fall into the trap of letting fear rule your life.  You will miss out on what God has for you.

I challenge you not to miss an opportunity that God has for you simply because you are too afraid to take the risk.

Questions to Consider:

  1. Write down a list of all the things in your life that you have been entrusted with.  Next to each one, write how you received it.  Finally, think about how God would like to use these items.
  2. When have you been disappointed with God?   If so, did it affect your relationship? Spend some time in prayer today asking Him to help you completely trust again.
  3. Think  of one risk that you feel God is calling you to take. Think all of the fears you have relating to this risk and then give the list to God and ask for His help.  Remember He is right there waiting for you to simply let go.

  1. I will be trying something very new and way outside of my comfort zone next week. I am terrified that I will fail, but I believe that God has granted me this awesome opportunity to challenge me. We will see what all comes from this upcoming challenge. I know that He is waiting to catch me if I will just let go and enjoy what He has given.

    • Shavawn, a would like to congratulate you on taking that step of faith. It is difficult to take a risk. I will be praying for you and this opportunity that God has given to you.
