MIA – Missing in Action

Have you every lost something?  Let me rephrase that, have you ever misplaced something?  At our home, with five children, misplacing items seems to happen a lot.  Most things seem to turn up missing right before bedtime or heading out to the school bus.

Are you familiar with the story of the lost coin story?  It is seen in Luke 15:8,9 “Or suppose a woman has ten silver coins and loses one. Doesn’t she light a lamp, sweep the house and search carefully until she finds it? And when she finds it, she calls her friends and neighbors together and says, ‘Rejoice with me; I have found my lost coin.’  She leaves everything else aside to search for the lost coin.

Well, that is exactly what has happened at the Whitaker household over the past 2 days.  We have been earnestly searching for an electronic device.  This is by no means the only electronic device in the entire house.  It makes me wonder why we only seem to lose or misplace items that are small enough they can hide in so many different places.  Anyhow, the house was turned upside down and inside out trying to find my middle son’s kindle.  I felt just like the woman in the story.  Everything else in life was put on hold, for everyone, until this item was found.  After finding the kindle this morning, I felt convicted.  I began to question whether I search this diligently with regards to God’s Word.  It is easy to skim over a few verses and check Bible reading off the to do list.  However, a cursory glance around my home would not have turned up the treasure I was seeking.  The same is true of God’s Word.  We all need to take the time and effort to dig deeper into the Word.  Going deeper into the Bible is the only way we will glean what God has for us.  I challenge you, as well as myself, to take some time this week and dig deeper into the Word.  I would love for you to share what you have uncovered.
