The Best of Me

The title of Nicholas Sparks’ new, The Best of Me, got me thinking.  Am I giving “the best of me” to God on a daily basis?  In the Old Testament, people were required to sacrifice or give
offerings of their best crops and/or livestock.  With Christ’s death and resurrection, Christians today are living under grace, not the law.  Therefore, Christ’s death paid the price for our sins and additional blood sacrifices are not required.  However, God still wants our best and I am not just talking about the offering we give at church on Sunday.  We also need to be giving God the best of ourselves everyday.  This means that God comes first with our time and talents and not just put off to see if there’s time left in our schedules. Our days need to be filled with time in God’s Word, so He can speak to us, and time in prayer, so we can speak to Him.  We also need to reach out and show Christ’s love in a real way to the lost and dying world around us.  Too often, myself included, we become so inwardly focused on our schedules, work and family and we just pencil God in on Sunday morning, where we go and hear a  message and that’s it.  God never intended for it to be that way.  First of all, He desires to have a personal relationship with each and every one of us.  However, you cannot have a  relationship with someone you do not talk and spend time with.  Also, God wants us to share the good news with others.  This is referred to as the Great Commission.  Those who have received Christ as their personal Savior have received the greatest gift.  However, far too often it stops there.  Aren’t you glad that someone didn’t stop there and instead decided to give the best of themselves by sharing the Gospel with you?  I know I am.  It’s easy to sit back and think that it’s someone else’s job and you do not feel certain what to do.  Well, it is everyone’s job.  As Christians, we know that the only way to heaven is to be saved.  People are dying and going to hell because we are not willing to share the Gospel.  If you are uncertain what to say, start off by showing them Christ’s love through your life.  Then, equip yourself with the witnessing tools needed.  When Christ returns, I want Him to find me busy about Kingdom business by giving “the best of me” to Him daily.  I challenge you to do the same.  Think of how many lives could be touched if we simply step out of our comfort zone and reach out to those around us.
