Let your light shine!

As the first rays of sunlight break through in this morning, I am reminded of the song, “This little light of mine”, that I sang as a child in Sunday School. I loved that song. It is referring to Matthew 5:14-16, “You are the light of the world. A city on a hill cannot be hidden. Neither do people light a lamp and put it under a bowl. Instead they put it on its stand, and it gives light to everyone in the house. In the same way, let your light shine before men, that they may see your good deeds and praise your Father in heaven.” We, as Christians, are commanded to let our light shine throughout a dark world. As I’m sure you know, one spark can light a dark room. Light penetrates the darkness. Adversely, darkness can not put out the light. I find that very comforting. However, we need to keep in mind that, like a light bulb, we need a power source. A packaged light bulb will not shine. It needs to be connected to a power source. We do not have the capability to generate our own source of power. Only that can come from the Lord and a relationship with Him. When we are connected to Him we can not help but shine. When you turn on a light today, I pray that you will think of this and let your light, the light of Christ, shine in your life unto a darkened world.
